This three-story, 39,500 square-foot cast-in-place concrete structure with architecturally exposed finishes and steel and wood shade structures as well as two service yards with retaining walls was completed in 2013. The structure houses laboratory space, work space, and offices for the university’s marine research.
Christian Wheeler Engineering provided inspection and testing services including concrete mix review, concrete batch plant inspection, special inspection of reinforced concrete, shotcrete, field welding, epoxy anchors, non-destructive testing, concrete compressive strength testing, shrinkage testing, concrete flexural strength testing, high strength bolt hardness testing, wall and roof evaluation, and coefficient of friction testing.
UCSD Structural and Materials Engineering Building
This $82.5 million building on the campus of the University of California, San Diego was completed in August 2012. The project consisted of the construction of a three-story cast-in-place concrete structure with architecturally exposed concrete finishes, and steel and wood shade structures. The structure provides 169,000 gross square feet of instructional, research laboratory, studio space and office space for various university departments.
Christian Wheeler Engineering provided special inspection and testing of reinforcing steel, concrete, bolts in concrete, epoxy anchors, and field welding during construction.
