MICHAEL B. WHEELER
Principal Civil Engineer
Michael Wheeler has resided in San Diego since 1980. His hometown is
Columbus, Indiana. He graduated San Diego State University in 1985 with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, and now spends his time
with his wife and two children.
In June of 1983, Michael Wheeler began his career in the engineering
field at San Diego Precast Concrete, Inc., where he was a Project
Manager/Plant Engineer. His responsibilities included developing and
implementing new plant quality control systems, project estimating,
preparation of shop drawings, designing form work, and preparing concrete
mix designs for projects including the expansion of Jack Murphy Stadium.
Seeking more work diversity, Mr. Wheeler began working for Southern
California Soil and Testing, Inc. (SCST) in February 1986. During his time
with the company, Mr. Wheeler obtained certifications in all areas of
construction special inspection, conducted field inspections during the
construction of concrete, masonry, wood, and steel structures, and conducted
various types of roofing and waterproofing installation inspections. He also
performed investigations of distressed structures and pavements, observed
the installation of and evaluated the capacity of driven piles and soil/rock
anchors, and prepared and reviewed Portland Cement and asphalt concrete mix
designs. While employed with SCST, Mr. Wheeler worked on major projects such
as the Vista Detention Facility, Hazard Center, and Lindbergh Field.
Michael Wheeler, Charles Christian, and Curtis Burdett, began Christian
Wheeler Engineering in September of 1998. Here, Mr. Wheeler is the Principal
Materials Engineer, and is responsible for the business administration of
the corporation as well as the supervision of all materials testing and
inspection services. He provides expert consultation for concrete, masonry
and steel structures as well as paving, roofing and waterproofing. The range
of projects at Christian Wheeler Engineering varies from single family
residences to high rise structures.
Mr. Wheeler has been a Registered Civil Engineer in California since 1990
and is a Registered Special Inspector with the City of San Diego for
reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete, reinforced masonry, deep
foundations, and structural steel assembly. Mr. Wheeler is also a Technician
Certification Examiner for the American Concrete Institute, is on the
Special Inspection Certification Committee for the International Code
Council, and is a Professional Member of the American Welding Society, the
Roof Consultants Institute, and the International Conference of Building
Officials. He is also a Representative to ICBO Chapter in the Building
Industry Association.
