CHARLES "CHRIS" CHRISTIAN
Principal Geotechnical Engineer
Charles H. Christian received his Bachelor of Science degree from Heald Engineering College in San Francisco in 1968 and continued his education with Post-Graduate Studies in Soil Mechanics at San Diego State University from 1973 to 1975.
Mr. Christian began his career in April 1968 at Daniels Brown and Hall where he worked as an Engineer-In-Training. His duties included earthwork calculations, surveying, and preparing street improvement plans, subdivision plans, and grading plans under the supervision of the principal Civil Engineer.
In March of 1969 Mr. Christian begun an active duty tour in the U.S. Navy Reserves, and served as an Engineering Aid to the Public Works Officer. During this time he prepared numerous reports required by Navy regulations and aided in preparing contracts for capital improvements and base maintenance.
Charles "Chris" Christian, joined Southern California Soil & Testing, Inc. (SCST) in December of 1970
as a staff engineer. In May 1977 he was promoted to Vice Present/Director of Engineering, and became responsible for all engineering, administration, business factors and personnel of the corporation, which at one time included five offices in Southern California. He was promoted to President/Director of Engineering in February 1978.
In September of 1998 Chris helped to open Christian Wheeler Engineering, where he is now the President/Principal Geotechnical Engineer. He is responsible for all geotechnical engineering, business development, administration and personnel of the corporation.
Chris' primary field of Civil Engineering is Geotechnical Engineering and he has experience in almost all aspects of soil mechanics. His past projects vary over a wide range, and include
high-, mid-, and low-rise structures, new schools and additions to existing schools, commercial and residential subdivisions, single lot commercial and residential projects, entertainment parks, and public and private improvements. His experience also includes a limited amount of forensic engineering for distressed structures and improvements.
Mr. Christian served on the board of the California Geotechnical Engineers Association from 1980-1988 and is a past president of that
organization. He also served on the board of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Geotechnical Division, from 1975-1978 and is also a past president of that
organization. He is an Associate Member of the Structural Engineers Association of California, and has been a Registered Civil Engineer in California since 1973 and a Registered Geotechnical Engineer in California since 1987.
